Past Texas Academy President
Academy and Texas Academy Member since 1976
“I am thrilled with the change from districts to regions within the Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. For years, many of our districts that are rural and sparsely populated within a large geographical area have been challenged to maintain a viable and active membership. Many Texas Academy members did not join districts and many who did were not able to travel an hour or two for a meeting. By regionalizing we are able to break down the virtual “walls” between districts as well as take advantage of technology to better meet both the networking and continuing education needs of members. Already, we are seeing crossover between areas with webinars organized for one region being publicized and available to members anywhere in the state. In fact, because I feel so strongly about this change, I have taken on the co-liaison position for the Central Dallas Area. As a past president of both the Dallas and Texas Academies, I know that change and utilizing new systems and practices is important in sustaining an organization that is practical and meaningful to members and the dietetics profession.”
