Karen Geismar has been practicing as dietitian since 1998. Her clinical experience began at Parkland Health and Hospital System in Dallas. She later moved to Houston and worked Memorial Herman Hospital-Texas Medical Center. In 2007, she moved with her husband to College Station and was employed at St. Joseph Regional Health Center (now CHI-St. Joseph Regional Health Center) in Bryan, Texas. She is a Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC), working in a trauma intensive care unit (ICU) before moving to the College Station. Other areas of clinical experience include neonatal nutrition, medical ICU, HIV/AIDS, and rehab. She has been teaching at Texas A&M University in the Department of Nutrition and Food Science since 2009 and currently serves at the Dietetic Internship Director, a position she has held since 2013.
Karen earned a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from Oklahoma State University in1986. She later returned to school to pursue a Master of Science degree in nutrition at Texas Woman’s University in Denton; she is also a graduate of the Dietetic Internship Program at TWU-Denton.
Karen is a member of the following professional organizations: Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; Mid-East Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (METAND); Dietitians in Nutrition Support Dietetic Practice Group; Sports, Cardiovascular, and Wellness Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group; Nutrition and Dietetics Educators and Preceptors Council; and American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. She served as treasurer for the Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation and co-chair for the update of the Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics MNT Manual.
